Scarification

Scarification is a mechanical process by which the deteriorated or contaminated surface of a concrete slab or surface is removed or ‘scarified.’ The purpose is to reach a sound substrate upon which a new flooring system will be placed. Scarifying is a more aggressive form of removal, allowing the removal of thick mill coatings, overlays, thin-set, or up to 1/2 inch of concrete in several passes. There is a wide variety of scarifying equipment available, ranging from 8 inches, 12 inches, to 13 inches wide and powered by electric or gasoline. All models can be used dry with a dust collector or wet to control any airborne dust.

Scabbling

Scabblers are typically used before shot blasting on poor industrial flooring substrates. Scabbling is much slower than shot blasting but is ideal for removing patches of thick, flaky coatings and oil-contaminated industrial flooring.

Diamond Grinding

Diamond Grinding – triple head machines to eliminate undulations and contamination on industrial flooring. Smaller areas and edgework can be carried out with handheld grinders. Floor grinders have the ability to remove coatings, glue, and more, leaving the surface clean, smooth, and ready for the application of thin mil coatings and stains.
